BLOGS

Days 20-24
Day 20: 26.2 miles (267.8-294) Today was my first marathon day. After getting up early, I hiked 10 miles where I saw Patches on my snack break. We eventually carried on to set up camp at 294. Too tired to type anymore. My resting heart rate is now in the 50's, cool to see my body adapting after only 3 weeks. Day 21: 20.3 Miles (294-314.3 Today was hot springs day. After hiking 15 miles we reached the hot springs. The pools were scorching hot and the river was cold, but it was

Days 16-19
Day 16: 17 Miles (218.5-235.5) It is currently 7:18pm and I am in my tent and sleeping bag trying to stay awake while I write this. Today was tough, 12 miles of mission creek, which was just washed up river bed from a hurricane a few years ago. It was tough on the knees, feet and brain. This is my second night alone. Not really alone, as there are a few other folks at the site too, but away from my group. I'm enjoying the time to myself. Walking through the rocks in the 82 de

Days 13-15
Day 13: 11.3 Miles (179.4-186.6) Today was one of, if not the best, day on trail. We climbed 4,500 feet which got us to the summit of San Jacinto mountain. We walked through snow and enjoyed lunch and a summit beer at the top. After a rather quick 4pm siesta, we headed down. We caught a magical sunset as we walked the ridge line and got into camp at 7:30, just in time to set up tents and cook. The calf held up amazingly and I'm super grateful for that and excited for what's t

Days 10-12
Day 10: 8.3 Miles (145.2-151.8) Today was a shorter day into PVC. I hitched into the town of Iddywild where I was able to see the trail Physio. She diagnosed me with a super tight calf muscle and put me in new shoes and prescribed a few days of rest. Felt good to finally address the issue that was slowly getting worse, and to hear good news that it was just a very tight muscle and no damage. Day 11: 0 Miles Today was a rest day. I got groceries, caught up on life back home an

Days 7-9
Day 7: 15.1 Miles (94.3 -109.4) Sunrise this morning was lovely from the tent site. We got a late start at 7:30 and hiked 7 miles to lunch, where we got served by "trail angels". Cold soda, coffee and hot dogs never tasted so good. From there, we pushed on to the town of Warner Springs where we had outdoor showers and bucket laundry. This afternoon was just beautiful, with a new type of landscape we hadn't experienced yet. It felt like a mix of desert with highlands. Backpack

Days 4-6
Day 4: 16.1 Miles (47.5-63.6) Day 4 started with a beautiful view along the ridge-line. In typical fashion, we hiked 5 miles and then had breakfast / coffee / stretched. The water source wasn't the best looking, but that's what filters are for. The day ended with a fog / rain storm which cut the day short. I planned to push to mile 68 but decided to call it early at 63.6. Set up camp, cooked dinner, in bed by 8:25 and falling asleep to the rain. Tomorrow I arrive into the tow

Days 1-3
Day 1: 15.4 Miles (0-15.4) Day 1 started in Mexico. Not literally, but we did put an arm into Mexico so I can official say I'm walking 'from Mexico to Canada'. After taking our terminus pic, we headed out as a group. 5 Americans from all over, 1 from the UK/Singapore, 2 Dutch, 1 from the Czech Republic, surely more to come. Around 1pm we stopped at mile 8.4 for lunch, but more importantly - a break from the sun. We took shelter in the only place we could find, under a bush,
